Intending to learn

You can’t understand the world better simply by reading about it as much as possible. You do so by being intentional about what you pay attention to in the first place. [Rohit Bhargava, Non-Obvious company]

My favourite thing to do is learning. It doesn’t quite count as a hobby, and it doesn’t quite count as work. But I like to know a little bit about many things.

I spend my time learning about human behaviour, science, technology, art, finance, machine learning, futurism and most recently crypto.

If you’re like me, I have some good news. The science is on our side, as people who are lifelong learners and have a diverse range of interests are said to be better innovators. I for one intend to reinforce that notion.

In an environment where we are trading off our passion for learning with little time and a flood of information, being intentional about how we approach our learning is key.

So key in fact, that after reading that quote I have decided to embark in a new project.

I commit to you, and myself, that every week I will add to this gallery of curated thoughts, on the topic I am learning about for the week. I will curate content from across the web, so expect book recommendations, insightful youtube videos and important articles. I will spare you the timewasters, highlight the worthwhiles, and throw in some ‘huh!’ moments.

The not for long empty gallery wall.

As a person who doesn’t tend to share any of her life on social media, I have to admit, this is going to be a bit uncomfortable. But I cannot think of a better reason than my passion for learning to decide to let go of the awkwardness and start writing. They don’t know it yet but my best friends will be signed up to comment on the usefulness of the weekly creation (cashing in on some of that unconditional support!)

I do however hope that this will prove useful to a few more people out there, and you will find a place for well curated ideas that helps you be intentional in your learning.

I leave you with a story of ‘great determination and surprising accuracy‘ that I hope aptly describes our journey ahead.

Thoughtfully,

Cristina
